A career in Nursing in Australia?

Hi. Im a male, currently doing year 12 in VIC, AUS and im interested in going into the profession of nursing however i have a few concerns which i need cleared up first. Supposedly there is a shortage of nurses in Australia however many nurses on the internet say that finding work is very difficult, which i find rather odd. Is this currently the case in Australia? Secondly from your experience, do you think nursing is something really worth getting into because im having doubts at the moment? Thx in advance :D
