How can there be so many experts on the afterlife when no one can prove anything about an afterlife?

There seems to be no shortage of people who will confidently declare what happens to our consciousness after we die, where it goes, and what it will be doing when it gets there. So, how do they know? Do seminaries offer classes on the afterlife?
