Could Volkswagen cut production thus create a shortage to raise profits?

Volkswagen are definitely Europe's biggest car maker and they own strong line ups of luxury car labels such as Bugatti, Bentley, Audi, Lamborghini and Porsche. Could anyone explain why or why not profits can be generated in long and short term. thanks :)
